Two-alarm Fire Prompts Apartment Complex Evacuation (Photo) -03/28/18

Seaside, Ore. – March 28, 2018 – At approximately 8:34 p.m. on March 28, Seaside Fire & Rescue responded to a fire at The Laundry Mat, located at 1223 S. Roosevelt in Seaside. Patrons were inside the business at the time the fire started but were able to quickly evacuate the building without injury.

The blaze also prompted the safe evacuation of a 26-unit apartment complex located immediately behind the laundromat. Those residents were kept from their units for about 60-75 minutes while crews secured the area. Adjacent businesses, Kiosco Mexicano and Coast Hardware, had smoke enter their units but potential damage is unknown at this time.

Seaside Fire & Rescue was supported by mutual aid from Cannon Beach, Gearhart, Hamlet, Lewis & Clark and Warrenton Fire. Surrounding agencies also provided coverage throughout the area. Seaside Police provided support as did crews from Medix. Many crews throughout the county were conducting standard Wednesday drills at the time the fire began, and no injuries were sustained throughout the night.

Additional details about the fire will be released after an investigation has been completed.
