Update: July 4 Accident Takes Life Of Astoria Man (Photo) -07/05/17
**This updates a release that went out yesterday with names for the deceased pedestrian and driver of the early-morning July 4 accident. Seaside, Ore. -- July 5, 2017 -- On Tuesday, July 4, at approximately 3:13 a.m. a motor vehicle versus pedestrian crash occurred on Highway 101 near Airport Rd. in Seaside. The pedestrian was identified as Jimmy Lee Mehrer, 32, of Astoria who died at the scene. The driver of the vehicle, identified as Jaydon Hunt, 18, of Seaside, was driving a 1998 Ford Explorer. Hunt remained on scene and was cooperative throughout the investigation. The Seaside Police Department along with the Oregon State Police investigated the crash. Information received from a witness, a friend of Mehrer, was that the deceased was intoxicated and had laid down in the roadway. When the approaching southbound vehicle observed the person in the roadway the driver did not have time to stop before striking him with the vehicle. Skid marks at the scene indicate heavy breaking occurred prior to impact. **end of release**
