Salem, Ore. — Beginning in September, the speed limit will be reduced on Commercial Street SE between Browning Avenue SE and Barnes Avenue SE.

The speed limit for the 1.3-mile section of Commercial Street SE will be lowered from 40 mph to 35 mph, effective in early September.

This change reflects the current speed limit on Commercial from Ratcliff Drive SE to Browning Avenue SE.

This change is part of the City’s ongoing efforts to enhance road safety for all users, including pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers. Following the approval of the Oregon Department of Transportation and in response to community feedback, the City determined that a reduced speed limit would help improve safety along this busy corridor.

The new speed limit will be posted with updated signage along Commercial Street SE. Drivers are encouraged to be mindful of the change and to adjust their driving habits accordingly.

The City thanks residents and commuters for their cooperation and understanding as this change is implemented. For more information on the City’s efforts to update the Salem Transportation System Plan, visit the Salem in Motion website.
