Richland Police Department Kicks off Community Awareness Campaigns (Photo) - 09/28/22

The Richland Police Department (RPD) is committed to supporting our community and bringing awareness to issues that impact our community members. October is known nationally as both Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

This October, Chief Clary, and the Richland Police Department have chosen to support and advocate for these important missions, department-wide.

Breast cancer affects friends and family members of many in our community and our goal is to encourage awareness and early screenings. In addition, the department is bringing attention to the importance of Domestic Violence Awareness. Domestic violence is prevalent in our community and the goal is to remind everyone that ending domestic violence starts with just one small action. Local resources and fundraisers are available in our community for both campaigns and RPD will be sharing these throughout the month.

To reinforce the effort, RPD has also partnered with several local sponsors and businesses who have generously contributed to wrapping some of our police vehicles to highlight these efforts. You will see two squad cars that have been wrapped in pink in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness and one car that has been wrapped in purple in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness.

“The cost of these wraps was 100% funded by our community partners. We could not have accomplished this effort without the support of our generous sponsors. A special thanks to McCurley Honda, Mustang Signs, Fast Signs, Bookwalter Winery, Legacy Jiu-Jitsu Academy, LaPierre Homes, Tri-Cities Cancer Center (Kadlec Foundation), and the RPD Foundation for recognizing our passion and helping us raise awareness throughout our community,” states Chief Clary. “These partnerships are vital for sharing information that could save a life of a family member, friend, or neighbor.”

In addition, the RPD launched its first pink patch this month. The mission of the national Pink Patch Project resonates with RPD staff - to bring attention to the fight against breast cancer.  RPD pink patches are currently for sale through the Richland Police Department Foundation.

RPD will be sharing more information on its Facebook page through October. Citizens are encouraged to engage and share their stories of survival.
