Public Invited to Regional North-South Transportation Study Open House - 10/09/19

RICHLAND – The community will have the opportunity to provide valuable input on work to increase mobility and reduce travel times both locally and regionally at a Wednesday, Oct. 16 public open house, 5:00-8:00 PM at the Richland Red Lion Hotel, and online beginning Oct. 14 at www.ci.richland.wa.us/northsouthtravelstudy.

The Cities of Richland and West Richland, Benton County, and the Washington State Department of Transportation (study sponsors) are working with consultant J-U-B ENGINEERS to study north-south transportation connectivity. The study includes evaluating and comparing the potential benefits of capacity improvements, such as interchange or intersection improvements in at least three distinct corridors: State Route 240, George Washington Way and a new Kingsgate Way corridor.

“At the open house, the public will have the opportunity to ask questions, learn about the study purpose and the role of the TAC (Technical Advisory Committee) who helped refine and rank the draft alternatives,” said Julie West, Richland Transportation and Development Manager.

For those who prefer to provide comments online, the project website will link to a survey where members of the community can share their thoughts and reaction to the draft alternatives.

The TAC includes representatives from diverse interests and perspectives. Through a series of meetings, they worked with the project team to develop, refine and weigh alternatives based on criteria they developed.

Citizens can stop the Red Lion Hotel located at 802 George Washington Way in Richland anytime between 5:00-8:00 PM to meet with members of the consulting team and key staff.

More information regarding this effort is available on the city’s website at www.ci.richland.wa.us/northsouthtravelstudy.
