Richland Hosts Atomic Frontier Day at Howard Amon Park - 09/05/19

Richland - Join us for Atomic Frontier Day! This free, family-friendly event will take place on Saturday, September 14, 2019, in Howard Amon Park, Richland. The City of Richland, along with several community partners, will be hosting this throwback event to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Manhattan Project.

The event kicks off with a community parade at 11:00 a.m. Citizens are invited to line the sidewalks of the parade route which will take place on Jadwin Ave. from Symons St., south to Mansfield St.

Following the parade, attendees are encouraged to make their way to Howard Amon Park. Opening ceremonies will take place at 1:00 p.m. at the iconic fingernail stage (see below for a schedule of events). Attendees will be taken on a journey similar to those of the early workers of the Manhattan Project. They will receive a souvenir, security badge/lanyard and be asked to visit exhibitors/booths seeking the required clearance to gain fictional access to the Hanford site.

Other partners will also be in the park sharing their stories and providing additional free activities for kids and families. The Wanapum Native American Discovery Unit Bus will be present, as well.

A replica Hanford era office and living room will be on display in the nearby Richland Community Center along with a “Remembrance Room”. Our community members are invited to bring in photos to add to the displays and share memories. Historical documentaries and films will also be playing throughout the afternoon.

Enjoy the free entertainment throughout the day on the fingernail stage, visit one of the food vendors or purchase tickets for the mess hall dinner.

The event will conclude at 8:00 p.m.

The Atomic Frontier Day Parade will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Jadwin Ave./Symons St. in Richland (near the Uptown Shopping Center) The parade will progress south on Jadwin to Mansfield St. (just north of the federal building).

Applications for interested parade participants will be accepted through September 6th. To apply to participate in the Atomic Frontier Day Parade, please complete the form at:

Participation is subject to approval. Keep in mind the era and overall theme of the event!

A limited number of chairs will be available for the opening ceremonies and for use throughout the day to sit and enjoy the entertainment on the stage. If possible, citizens are encouraged to bring their own chairs/blankets to enjoy the day long festivities and entertainment at the Fingernail Stage.

You can sign up to share your stories using the following link:

In addition, citizens are encouraged to provide photographs for the walls of the “Remembrance Room”. Photographs can be submitted via email to"> or brought to the Richland Community Center on September 14th.
