Richland Police Chief Recruitment Update - 09/11/18

In April, 2018, the City of Richland, WA began an extensive recruitment effort to replace the City’s Chief of Police.  The position was previously held for seven years by Chris Skinner, who accepted a position as Police Chief with the City of Eugene, OR.

As is standard practice by agencies of this size and with positions of this caliber, a reputable recruitment firm, Ralph Andersen & Associates was hired to assist with the search. With their expertise, and per direction of the City Manager, every effort was made to execute a fair, thorough, and unbiased process.

Potential candidates were evaluated through a series of applications, interviews, background assessments, and a community open house. Understandably, recruitment efforts of this nature can be an arduous process and do not always result in a successful candidate.

Consequently, after careful consideration, City Manager, Cindy Reents confirms she did not find the right candidate to fill the Police Chief position at this time. “I appreciate the patience of the community throughout this very important process. The City Council and I are committed to this process and are determined to find the right fit for our City. Therefore, I have released all remaining candidates and will reevaluate the candidate market in the future. I have the utmost of confidence in Chief Jeff Taylor and he will continue as interim Chief of Police until further notice.”
