FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Oregon City, ORE. - Thanks to a new partnership between the Oregon City School District and the Oregon City Public Library, all students in the OCSD are eligible to sign up for a LINCC Student Library Card as part of the school registration process.
All new and returning student paperwork in ParentVue, the district's parent portal, will include a form asking if the family would like to sign their student up for a free Student Library Card. Once registration forms are completed, digital library cards will automatically be created using the student's ID number and other information parents agree to share from their school account.
Cards will go live starting on Sept. 1, and will be active through Aug. 31 of 2025. Once students are enrolled in the program, they will have year-round library card access as long as parents renew their participation each year using the same form in ParentVue.
Students will be able to check out up to 5 items at a time, place up to 5 holds at a time and access all library digital resources. There will be no late fees charged on items checked out to Student Library Card accounts.
“The first priority in the library’s current strategic plan is to Create Young Readers,” says Youth Services Librarian Barratt Miller. “By integrating library card sign ups into the school registration process, we’re able to meet families where they are and connect all of our public school students with books and other free library resources.”
OCSD Director of Human Resources Lisa Normand highlights the benefits of the partnership for the school district as well. "This is a wonderful opportunity to partner with our local library to foster a love of literacy and support student growth."
This program was made possible through collaboration between Oregon City Public Library, Oregon City School District, Clackamas ESD, and Libraries In Clackamas County (LINCC). Building on a model developed by Washington County Cooperative Library Services (WCCLS), the team utilized recent updates in library technology to implement an automated process that streamlines student registration and can be easily scaled to include additional school districts in the future.
“It’s exciting to know this pilot program will reach students who haven’t had an opportunity to visit the library yet,” says LINCC Library Support Services Manager Rick Peterson.
“We are looking forward to establishing partnerships with other school districts around Clackamas County.”
To sign your OCSD student up for a Student Library Card, complete the form in ParentVue by Aug. 31. If you have trouble finding the form or would like to update your form, please contact your child's school.
