Oregon City Hosting Four Online Summits On The City's Future (Photo) - 08/31/21

Oregon City, OR – This fall, the City of Oregon City is taking the next step forward in its year-long process of planning for Oregon City’s future. As part of the City’s process for developing a twenty-year “Comprehensive Plan,” they have been gathering community input through online surveys and community conversations. Beginning Tuesday, September 14th, weekly online summits will be hosted to provide an update on the OC2040 project, share what has been received, and give residents an opportunity to weigh in – one topic at a time. The summits, held via Zoom, will serve as virtual community forums. Register and receive a Zoom link through the project website: www.oc2040.com.

Oregon City leaders want their Comprehensive Plan – which should be completed in early 2022 – to reflect community priorities and desires. After a yearlong engagement process with the Oregon City community and business owners, the City recently adopted the OC2040 Vision Statement. The Vision Statement is organized around four themes, which will shape the goals and policies of the Comprehensive Plan. To encourage participation in the upcoming summits, and show support for its diverse business community, they will be thanking those who join by mailing a $15 gift card to a Black, Indigenous, or Person of Color-owned local restaurant.

To work with a broad range of schedules and non-traditional work hours, some sessions will be held in day and some in the evening. All summits will be recorded, and participants must register on the project website (www.oc2040.com) in advance. The community is welcome to attend one or all of the summits that interest them:

  • Tuesday, September 14, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.: Diverse Economy
  • Wednesday, September 22, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.: Connected Infrastructure
  • Wednesday, September 29, 6 to 8 p.m.: Healthy and Welcoming Community
  • Wednesday, October 6, 6 to 8 p.m.: Protected Environment

The first summit on September 14, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., will focus on what a Diverse Economy looks like in the future of Oregon CityThe planning team will make a brief presentation, then residents will have the opportunity to discuss ideas in virtual breakout rooms. Although all topics related to the theme are welcome, the first summit will center on discussion of jobs and housing, focusing on the questions of: Where should the City focus its economic development efforts? Which industries are important to invest in for the future? What types of housing is needed in Oregon City and where?

To learn more about the Oregon City’s Comprehensive Plan update and to stay involved, residents can visit www.oc2040.com. For questions, contact Laura Terway at 503.722.3789 or drop by their office at 695 Warner Parrott Road, Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4 p.m.
