Oregon City Commission Declare State Of Emergency - 09/09/20

OREGON CITY - The rapidly changing fire event in Clackamas County continues to impact Oregon City and the surrounding community. Clackamas County is experiencing high winds and a dry air mass that has caused several extensive fires in Clackamas County. There are currently six active fires in Clackamas County that have resulted in the mass evacuation of county residents and is a threat to life and property. A Red Cross facility has been opened at Clackamas Community College as a resource for citizens that have been ordered to evacuate their homes. The County declared a state of emergency on September 8, 2020 and is running out of resources for firefighting, and sheltering assistance is needed. Oregon City staff is recommending that the City Commission declare a State of Emergency, effective immediately so that staff can work with federal, state, and local agencies in a coordinated effort to address the impacts of the multiple fires within the region and that is in close proximity to Oregon City. This declaration will expire on September 17th unless terminated earlier or extended by the City Commission.
