(NEWBERG, OR) – The City of Newberg is pleased to announce the hire of Kezia Wanner as Newberg’s new Assistant City Manager. Wanner’s first day with the City will be Monday, October 26. She comes to the City with more than two decades of public service experience at the local government level, most recently with the Multnomah Sheriff’s Office as the Deputy Director overseeing the agency’s support services. As well as serving as the Assistant City Manager, Wanner will lead the City’s Human Resources Department.

In addition to her experience at the Multnomah Sheriff’s Office, Wanner has also managed financial, administrative, and operational programs for the Portland Police Bureau and the Portland Bureau of Transportation. She also spent seven years with the Portland Budget Office. Previously she worked for the City of Placentia, California developing its historic tax preservation tax abatement program and for the City of Woodburn as the community liaison and working on historic district designation, public arts projects, and urban renewal area formation.

The Assistant City Manager will serve a vital leadership role in the organization and actively support the City Manager’s efforts to implement the City Council’s goals and policies. This newly created position will initially focus on Human Resources with an evolving portfolio based on the needs of the City and in collaboration with the City Manager. Newberg used recruitment assistance from The Novak Consulting Group to hire Wanner. 128 applied for the position from 29 states.

Newberg City Manager Dan Weinheimer commented on Wanner’s hiring saying, “I am excited to have Kezia join our team. Her extensive experience make her capable of helping the City organization improve in a number of areas. She will immediately focus internally on organizational culture and serve as an asset in supporting implementation of community and Council goals.”

Wanner has stated she is most excited to work with City Manager, Dan Weinheimer, the Newberg City Council, and the dedicated and talented employees of the City to focus on creating a culture of sustained excellence.

The City of Newberg is excited to welcome Wanner as part of the team. She will begin with the City on October 26, 2020.
