Three Local Projects Awarded With Community Enhancement Awards From The City Of Newberg - 03/04/20

(NEWBERG, OREGON) – On February 28, 2020, at the Chehalem Valley Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner, the City of Newberg awarded three organizations Community Enhancement Awards for projects completed in the past year. Award winners included Providence Newberg Medical Center, Chehalem Parks & Recreation District (CPR&D), and KWDS, LLC.

The Community Enhancement Awards are given annually to projects that improve and enhance the Newberg community as a “Great Place to Grow.” Projects selected go above and beyond the normal in making the community more attractive and vital. All three award winners have developed projects in Newberg that have made the community a better place to live, work, and play.

Providence Newberg Medical Center opened in 2006 as the nation’s first LEED Gold certified hospital and has witnessed continued growth in patient volume year over year. In 2018, plans to build an additional medical office building came to fruition with the new 3-story, 64,000 sq. ft. medical plaza. The new building holds additional patient spaces including family medicine, internal medicine, behavioral health, rehab, cardiac rehab, lab, and a cancer center. The new building brought departments that were once off-site onto campus and gave Providence Health & Services the ability to provide more integrated services to the community.

CPRD was founded in 1967 and have been working to create and provide recreational opportunity to the Chehalem Valley ever since. Their mission is to connect and enrich the community through parks, recreation, open space, natural resources, and educational opportunities. In 2019, CPRD held the grand opening of the new Chehalem Aquatic & Fitness Center. The construction project began in 2014 with the passage of a bond to construct a new aquatics facility. The new facility includes an aquatic leisure complex, a separate area with an aquatic athletic venue, a new gymnasium with a walking track, and greatly expanded weight and cardio areas.

A family owned and operated business, KWDS, LLC, has developed several multifamily communities throughout Oregon and the Portland Metropolitan Area. With over 850 units, KWDS has developments along the I-5 corridor from Wilsonville to Salem, Newberg, and Bend. These developments have been providing critically needed housing throughout the state since 1978. One of KWDS, LLC’s newest projects, the Chehalem Pointe Apartments, opened last year in Newberg. Chehalem Pointe has 140 apartment units and increased the number of units available in Newberg’s apartment rental market.

Congratulations to our three award winners and thank you for making Newberg a better place for all.
