ADA Birthday Party Hosted By Hillsboro Parks & Recreation -07/17/23
The City of Hillsboro Parks & Recreation Department’s second annual Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Birthday Party will take place this weekend over three days: Thursday, July 20, Friday, July 21, and Saturday, July 22.
The ADA Birthday Party is a free community event celebrating the 33rd anniversary of the passing of the Americans with Disabilities Act and includes:
- craft workshops, a gallery exhibit, and artist lectures by North Pole Studio
- live performances by PHAME and CymaSpace
- gymnasium activities with Every Body Athletics, Hoop.Camp, Power Soccer PDX, and Adaptive Sports Northwest
- a dance hosted in partnership with Griffin’s Place
- food and drink vendors
- sensory-friendly activities for the whole family
A detailed schedule of events includes:
- Thursday, July 20, 5 – 7 pm: Dance with Griffin’s Place
- Friday, July 21, 5 – 8 pm: Gallery exhibit opening party with North Pole Studio, including artist lectures from 6 – 7 pm
- Saturday, July 22, 10 am – 3 pm
- 10 am – 3 pm drop-in activities: disability pride flag and button making workshops with North Pole Studio, vendor resource tables, food trucks, sensory play, scavenger hunt, photo booth, face painting, temporary tattoo station
- 10 am – 12 pm: basketball with Hoop Camp
- 12 – 1 pm: PHAME Rock Ensemble performance, drop-in fitness class with Every Body Athletics
- 1 – 3 pm: CymaSpace performance, Power soccer clinic with Adaptive Sports Northwest & Power Soccer PDX
Highlights for this year’s ADA Birthday Party:
- 3 days of free activities celebrating disability empowerment and programming.
- Live performances by PHAME and CymaSpace, two non-profit arts agencies that highlight inclusive arts. PHAME provides inclusive arts education and performance opportunities for individuals experiencing disability. CymaSpace uses media and technology to make the arts accessible and inclusive, particularly for individuals that are Deaf & hard of hearing.
- Art experiences with North Pole Studio, a Portland non-profit art studio that empowers artists experiencing disability to thrive as active members of the arts community. North Pole Studio is displaying a gallery exhibit throughout Hidden Creek Community Center for the month of July in celebration of Disability Pride Month. Two of the displaying artists will be lecturing on their experiences.
- A gymnasium schedule where participants can explore adaptive recreation through physical activity. With drop-in activities such as basketball, power soccer, and fitness programming these, partner hosted programs highlight what local offerings participants can connect to for recreational opportunities.
- More than 10 informational booths sharing information on local disability resources and recreational opportunities.

What: ADA Birthday Party hosted by Hillsboro Parks & Recreation. This event features live performance, dancing, crafts, community resources, art exhibitions, and more to celebrate and honor the 33rd anniversary of the passing of the Americans with Disabilities Act. This event is FREE, open to the public, and a great way to celebrate disability pride month.
