City of Hillsboro Crews Continue Response to Winter Weather (Photo) - 02/20/18

City of Hillsboro Public Works Department crews are closely monitoring the weather and the status of Hillsboro's roadways as snowfall continues in the area. Hillsboro crews have moved to 12-hour shifts to ensure coverage and response, and crews are applying de-icing solution as needed.

Ahead of the snowfall, City of Hillsboro crews pre-treated roads on Sunday with anti-icing solution in anticipation of the freezing weather. Preparing for the expected snow helped prevent ice from forming and sticking to road surfaces. Crews also serviced and readied snow plows, equipment, and anti-icing solution.

Additionally, City of Hillsboro Parks & Recreation Department maintenance crews are ensuring community access to City facilities by clearing sidewalks and entrances.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for the Greater Portland Metro area - including the cities of Hillsboro, Portland, Wilsonville, Oregon City, Gresham, and Troutdale -- from now through 4 am, Wednesday, February 21. Heavy snow is now expected with total accumulations of one to two inches this afternoon and three to seven inches total. Heavier snow is expected between noon and 2 pm.

In the event that snow accumulates on Hillsboro roadways, sand/gravel will be applied at intersections, curves, on hills, and other problem areas to improve traction during and after snow fall. Snow plows also will be deployed to remove accumulating snow on priority roadways.

During this winter weather event, travelers on Hillsboro roadways should anticipate difficult travel conditions, especially during the evening commute -- including significant reductions in visibility at times.

The City of Hillsboro reminds drivers to travel safely and slow down. If you don't need to drive, consider staying home or using public transit. Residents, businesses, and property owners are asked to keep sidewalks adjacent to their property clear from snow or ice for community members who walk or use public transit.
