2026 GRESHAM LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD RECIPIENTS BOOST GRESHAM READS PROGRAM (Photo) - 10/22/26

GRESHAM, Ore. — The Gresham Reads program received a generous donation of 80 new books thanks to the family of community leaders Mike and Diane McKeel.

The duo, who received the City of Gresham's Lifetime Achievement Award during the 2026 State of the City in July, have served numerous roles over the decades. Diane has served the region in a variety of roles, including a member of the Multnomah County Board of Commissioners and the Mount Hood Community College Board of Education. Mike has served on advisory committees with the City of Gresham, on the Moda Health Board, and as a member of the Gresham-Barlow School District Board. Mike is currently the chairman of Multnomah County Fire and Rescue District 10.

The Gresham Reads program offers free books for youth at Little Free Libraries located in Hall and Kirk Park, as well as the Dutch Bros on Kane Dr. The program is run by the Gresham Youth Advisory Council, which helped the McKeel family select books to donate. These include selections from the Magic Treehouse, Harry Potter, and Hunger Games series, among other titles.

"We are incredibly grateful for this donation and for the McKeel family's enduring commitment to serving our community," said Gresham Mayor Travis Stovall.

The new books will be hitting Little Free Libraries throughout the Gresham community over the next month. Learn more about Gresham Reads and how to make a donation to the program at GreshamOregon.gov/Gresham-Reads.
