News Release
City of Gresham Appoints Eric Schmidt as Permanent City Manager - 06/05/24

GRESHAM, Ore. – The City of Gresham is pleased to announce the appointment of Eric Schmidt as the permanent City Manager. Following the resignation of former City Manager Nina Vetter, Eric Schmidt has been serving Gresham as the Interim City Manager since December 2023. City Council voted unanimously to appoint Schmidt as the permanent City Manager, effective June 15.

"Eric Schmidt has consistently demonstrated his dedication to our community and his capability to manage our City's complex needs,” said Gresham Mayor Travis Stovall. “His experience makes him an excellent choice to guide Gresham forward, and we are fortunate to have his leadership.”

Schmidt has been a member of the Gresham City administration for over 26 years, bringing a wealth of knowledge to the position. His tenure with the city began in 1998, and his roles have encompassed many responsibilities. Most recently, he served as Assistant City Manager, overseeing the Community and Economic Development department.

Schmidt’s role as Interim City Manager from July 2020 to January 2021 was marked by significant accomplishments during a challenging period. He demonstrated leadership and decisiveness during the COVID-19 pandemic and the budget shortfalls of that time.

“I am honored and humbled that City Council has selected me to serve as the City Manager of Gresham,” said Schmidt. “I am grateful to serve this wonderful community and I am eager to collaborate closely with the Mayor and City Council, our employees, residents, and businesses while implementing our City's strategic priorities.”
