News Release

Press Release: Drowning -12/10/24

On December 10, 2024, at approximately 2:09 a.m., officers from the Gladstone Police Department responded to a reported assault at the Holiday Inn Express in Gladstone. An employee at the location reported being assaulted by a male suspect and we later learned that the suspect was attempting to steal items from the office area.

Upon arrival, officers located the suspect inside the building. When approached, the suspect fled on foot, leading officers on a brief pursuit. The individual jumped from a 15-foot bank, at which point officers temporarily lost sight of him. Moments later, the suspect was observed jumping into the Clackamas River.

Search and Rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the scene. Tragically, after an extensive search, the suspect was located deceased from an apparent drowning.

This incident remains under investigation. No further details are available at this time.  The name of the drowning victim is being withheld until next of kin has been notified

The Gladstone Police Department extends its condolences to all those impacted by this tragic event.

Homicide Investigation -11/27/24

On November 26 at about 6:40 PM, Gladstone Police Officers were dispatched to a home in the 8300 block of Cason Rd regarding a welfare check of the resident, Rosa Leyva.  Officers arrived at the home and were met at the door by the son of Ms. Leyva, Ronald Kirk who also resides there.  Based on the interaction with Mr. Kirk, officers were compelled to enter the home to check on the condition of Ms. Leyva.  Officers discovered Ms. Leyva deceased in the home.  

As a result of the investigation, Mr. Kirk was arrested and lodged at the Clackamas County Jail for Murder and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.  There is no ongoing danger to the public.  The investigation remains in progress is and being led by the Gladstone Police Department, Clackamas County Interagency Major Crimes Team and the Clackamas County District Attorney’s Office.   No further information will be released.  

There is no current threat to the community.
