Public Hearing on Proposed Utility Rate Increase (Photo) - 11/24/21

The Fairview City Council will be holding a virtual public hearing over the Zoom platform on Wednesday, December 1st during its regular City Council meeting beginning at 7 PM.  Interested parties can submit written testimony to City Recorder Devree Leymaster at leymasterd@ci.fairview.or.us.  Those interested in testifying at the hearing should also contact the city recorder by email prior to the meeting.  The agenda for the meeting will be on the cities website, fairvieworegon.gov beginning Friday, November 26.

The Fairview City Council’s financial policy on Utility Rates calls for a utility rate review every two years.  The last utility rate review was done in 2018.  The Council chose to defer the 2020 utility rate review because we were in the middle of the COVID-19 Pandemic. On October 6, 2021, the City Council reviewed the 2021 utility rate report.

As a result of utility rate review the City Council is considering the following increases in the user rate for the City’s Utility and Storm Water Utility customers:

  • February 1, 2022:
    • 4% Water Utility Rate Increase
    • 9% Storm Water Utility Rate Increase
  • February 1, 2023
    • 4% Water Utility Rate Increase
    • 9% Storm Water Utility Rate Increase

The proposed February 1, 2022 rate adjustment will increase the typical residential bill by $2.51 per month (2.79%).  The February 1, 2023 proposed rate adjustment is an increase of $2.66 per month (2.87%).

The chart below contains a 10 year history utility rate increase.

The City Council will be considering final action on the proposed utility rate increase at their meeting on December 15, 2021.  If the rate increase is approved at that time utility customers will be notified during the January utility billing and the new rates would begin February 1, 2022.
