Shortly after 7:00pm on Wednesday, July 13, Battle Ground Police Officers and Fire District 3 crews responded to a single car accident at the intersection of N Parkway/ W Main Street where a vehicle crashed into the downtown restaurant, Margarita Factory.
Officers quickly secured the intersection and worked with fire personnel to clear debris to access the driver of the vehicle and to identify any additional victims. The driver was extricated from the vehicle and assessed by medical personnel on scene before being transported to an area hospital for further evaluation. Two restaurant patrons also sustained non-life threating injuries as a result of this incident; one of which was transported to the hospital for further evaluation.
The investigation into the accident is still ongoing; however, it is believed that the driver was experiencing a medical emergency at the time of the incident.
Building Damage
The vehicle struck the southwest corner of the structure causing significant damage to the main support post on that portion of the building. Fire personnel worked to shore up the structure to ensure the safety of the emergency crews and civilians still inside the restaurant.
A city building official inspected the structure once first responders had cleared the scene. The damaged portion of the building has been temporarily reinforced and the business has received approval to reopen with restricted access to the west side of the dining room.
Building officials stated that a new support post is needed on the SW corner of the building. Once the repairs are made and receive an approved inspection, it is expected that the restaurant will be able to reopen to full capacity.
