Chemeketa's Driver Education Program Focused On Revitalization (Photo) - 06/10/22

The program which was closed for over a year due to COVID-19 has reopened and is in need of instructors.

Salem, Oregon, June 10, 2022 — Chemeketa’s Driver Education program has safely reopened and is running again after being closed for over a year due to Covid-19.  Driver Education is offered to help teenagers safely learn how to operate a vehicle while keeping our roads safe.

According to whydrivewithed.com, teens who took Driver Education have a 21% lower crash rate than those who don’t. Studies show that teens who complete an ODOT-approved Driver Education course in Oregon greatly reduce their chances of being in a fatal crash and have fewer traffic convictions and suspensions.

Chemeketa’s  Driver Education course is an Oregon Department of Transportation approved course that helps students successfully complete classroom and in-car instruction. Students that are 15-17 years old and complete the course will receive an ODOT certificate that waives the DMV drive test.

Students that were unable to participate in Driver Education during the program closure paired with the ongoing pool of interested students continues to grow and it has been difficult to meet the demand of interested students.

Since reopening, Chemeketa is ready to expand Driver Education and invites interested individuals looking to provide Driver Education instruction to consider a position with this program. Western Oregon University and Chemeketa Community College have partnered together to offer the Driver Education Instructor Training at Chemeketa’s Salem Campus. The Driver Education instructor position offers flexible hours with competitive pay. Driving time is scheduled by the instructor, and Chemeketa will provide the instruction vehicle. If you or someone you know is interested in becoming an instructor, please email drivereducation@chemeketa.edu or call 503.584.7541.
