Three Chemeketa Community College Students Make OCCA All-Oregon Academic Team -04/21/22

Chemeketa students are honored to be recognized on the 2022 All-Oregon Academic Team

Salem, Ore., April 21, 2022 — Oregon Community College Association has announced three Chemeketa Community College students have been selected for the 2022 All-Oregon Academic Team (AOAT). The AOAT student scholars are selected for their academic excellence, leadership, and community service. The Chemeketa students are Ellen Grey, Maricruz Pena, and Lindsay (Price) Wright.

“It can take a lot of perseverance and some late nights in order to go to school full time and work full time, so it is rewarding to be acknowledged for that hard work,” says Lindsay (Price) Wright. “I am really grateful for the opportunities and help from Chemeketa and the instructors who helped set me up for academic success.”

“I'm currently working on my Associate of Science Oregon Transfer degree and will be transferring to get my master’s in business,” says Maricruz Pena. I am incredibly honored to be part of the 2022 All-Oregon Academic Team. Phi Theta Kappa has motivated me to set higher standards for myself.”  Pena is also a recipient of several scholarships and thanked the donors who have helped make her college journey possible: the Clyde Latinx Scholarship, Mell & Eva Schwartz, the ROSA Foundation scholarship, and the Vasquez Cooper Scholarship.

“We are very proud of Chemeketa’s All Oregon Academic Team students Ellen, Maricruz, and Lindsay,” says Chemeketa Community College President and CEO, Jessica Howard. “Their academic accomplishments and commitment to service and leadership inspire all of us.”

Each year, Phi Theta Kappa, community college presidents, and community college state associations like OCCA sponsor All-State Community College Academic Team ceremonies in 37 participating states. OCCA hosted the All-Oregon Academic Team Luncheon on April 15 at Sunriver Resort to honor AOAT students and their families.
