Centennial High School Performing Arts Students To Perform "25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" Musical - 04/06/22
This spring, Centennial High School (CHS) theater students, and some former alumni, will be performing the “25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee”. The comedy-filled, award-winning musical will be held in the Centennial High School Auditorium from May 5 through May 14, 2022.
Winner of the Tony and the Drama Desk Awards for Best Book, “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” has charmed audiences with effortless wit and humor across the country.
Featuring a fast-paced, wildly funny and touching book by Rachel Sheinkin and a truly fresh and vibrant score by William Finn, this bee is one unforgettable experience. An eclectic group of seven mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming "ding" of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Seven spellers enter; one speller leaves! At least the losers get a juice box.
Centennial High School’s production team includes Director Kellie McCarty, Choreographer Sharon V. Miller, Music Director Rebecca Chelson, Technical Director Emily Aleman, and Costumer Kathy Morgan.
The cast is led by senior Mary Dejeu as Marcy, senior Julia Standley as Olive, junior Shine Sarkkinen as Coneybear, junior Alanda Saranchuk as Sally, sophomore Eloise Ahl as Chip, sophomore Braiden Yasui as Barfee, and freshman Audrey De La Paz as Schwarzy.
Additionally, it showcases CHS alumni including Lindsay Qualls (Class of 2010) as Rona, Alonzo Perry (Class of 2017) as Panch, and Jessica Cabrera (Class of 2020) as Mitch. It will also feature cameos from Centennial High School’s Spanish Teacher Jim Johnson; Amy Smith, Class of 2008 alum; and Lukas Hurley, Class of 2019 alum.
