Centennial School District announces new administrative hires - 07/16/21

The Centennial School District has announced the hiring of three new Cabinet members and a planning principal for the upcoming school year. 

Dr. Tasha Katsuda will be the Assistant Superintendent/Director of Human Resources, replacing James Owens who became Superintendent earlier this month. 

Dr. Katsuda currently serves as Curriculum Director, Bethel School District in Eugene Oregon, a position she has held for the past three years. In addition, Dr. Katsuda held a variety of positions in the Eugene School District 4J, including: Principal, Spencer Butte Middle School; Federal & Instructional Programs Administrator; Human Resources Educator Quality Administrator; Principal, McCornack Elementary School; Assistant Principal, Jefferson Middle School; administrator at North Eugene High School, Kelly Middle School and Madison Middle School.  She has a Doctorate of Education (DEd) degree from the University of Oregon, a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) from Pacific University and Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Oregon State University. She will begin in Centennial August 2, 2021.

Maureen Callahan joined the district earlier this month as the Director of Curriculum and Student Learning, replacing Tina Acker, who left the district to become Director of Professional Learning for the COSA (Coalition of Oregon School Administrators).

Callahan most recently was the Executive Director of Teaching and Learning for North Clackamas School District, a position she held for seven years.  She has also worked as the Chief Academic Officer in the Beaverton School District, Director of Student Achievement in the Canby School District, Principal of Mount Scott Elementary in the North Clackamas School District as well as Assistant Principal of Boones Ferry Elementary in the West Linn-Wilsonville School District.  She has been an Instructional Coordinator, middle school Math & Science teacher, and an elementary school teacher.  As a teacher, Callahan was recognized as a finalist for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics Teaching.  She received her Administration Certificate from Lewis & Clark College, a Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction as well as a Middle School Math Certificate from Portland State University, and her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from West Chester State University.

Kassie Swenson will become the Chief Communications Officer beginning August 2, replacing Carol Fenstermacher, APR who retired in June. 

Since 2016, Swenson has been the Chief of Communications and Strategy at Federal Way Public Schools in Washington.  Prior to that, she served as their Director of Strategy and System Alignment. She held various administrative office roles for the Renton School District in Human Resources and Teaching for Learning departments and in Spokane Public Schools Instructional Programs department. She has a Master’s in Educational Leadership degree and a Residency Administrator credential from Washington State University and a Bachelor of Science in Speech Communications degree from North Dakota State University.   

Jeb Hubbs has been named as the Planning Principal for the conversion of Oliver Elementary School to a middle school. Hubbs currently is the Principal of Oliver Elementary School, and will continue in that role this coming school year, while assuming the additional responsibilities of planning for the Fall 2022 opening of Oliver Middle School.  These tasks will include developing the instructional model, school schedule, and staffing for the new middle school.  

Hubbs has led Oliver Elementary School for the past six years. Prior to his work in Centennial, he was a K-8 Assistant Principal in Portland Public Schools.  Before moving to Oregon, he served as the Planning and Founding Principal of a charter high school in San Diego, California. 

He earned a Master of Arts Degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from San Diego State University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Willamette University.  He has also earned a Racial Equity Certificate for School Leaders from the Center for Equity and Inclusion (CEI).
