Update: Canby School District Completes Investigation Into Transportation Issue Involving Canby High School Band - 06/03/19

Canby, Oregon - Canby School District has completed its investigation into a transportation issue involving the Canby High School band’s planned trip to the Starlight Parade on June 1, 2019. Band students missed the opportunity to march in the parade because there was no transportation available.

The district’s investigation found that a procedural error prevented the arrangement of transportation to the parade. While paperwork to request the bus was submitted by the band director, it was not processed properly.

“I made some assumptions about the paperwork I submitted as part of the request for the field trip. It’s my responsibility to make sure transportation is arranged, although I was not aware I needed to do so. I offer my sincerest apologies to all the band students, parents, and volunteers,” explained Nick Luchterhand, CHS Band Director.

“I am sorry that this procedural error caused our students to miss the Starlight Parade. I have worked with Nick and our support staff to ensure everyone knows the process moving forward,” said Greg Dinse, Canby High School Principal. “We know how hard these students practiced and prepared for the event. We value the entire band community; students, parents, and volunteers. We are sorry that this happened.”

Rose Festival organizers have invited Canby High School’s band to perform in the Grand Floral Parade on Saturday, June 8, 2019. The band has accepted the invitation. A bus request to transport students to the parade has already been filed.

“We are thrilled that the students’ hard work preparing for the Starlight Parade will be on display next weekend,” explained Dinse. “These students deserve a chance to shine.”

“I want the entire community to know how much we appreciate your support,” said Luchterhand.

The Rose Festival Grand Floral Parade is Saturday, June 8 from 10:00 a.m. until 2 p.m. It begins at Memorial Coliseum and ends at Lincoln High School. More information on the parade route can be found here.
