News Release
Vancouver detectives involved in shooting identified - 03/11/19

Vancouver, Wash. –

On March 7, 2019, at approximately 1:40 p.m., Detectives from the Safe Streets Task Force and Neighborhood Response Team conducting an investigation involving narcotics trafficking, attempted a traffic stop of a suspect connected to that investigation in the 2500 block of NE 78th Street. The suspect was uncooperative and was armed with a hand gun. Detectives engaged the suspect, which resulted in two Vancouver detectives shooting the suspect, who did not survive. No officers were injured.

The suspect was identified as Carlos M. Hunter, 43, Vancouver resident.

The involved officers are Detective Dennis Devlin, 45, and Detective Colton Price, 30.

Detective Devlin was hired by the Vancouver Police Department in March 2004. He has been assigned to Patrol, the Neighborhood Response Team and as a Detective in the Safe Streets Task Force since October 2015, where he is currently assigned.

Detective Price was hired by the Vancouver Police Department in November 2012. He has been assigned to Patrol and as a Detective in the Neighborhood Response Team East since January 2017, where is currently assigned.

The previous release incorrectly stated the Detective Price is with the Safe Streets Task Force.

Per standard department procedure, both officers are on critical incident leave.

The Regional Major Crimes Team, led by the Camas Police Department, is investigating the officer involved shooting.

Nothing further is available for release at this time.
