North Middle School Celebrates 100 Years Of Education In Colorado Springs -Join Us For A Community-wide Celebration On Tuesday, September 24th (Photo) -09/17/24
North Middle School, one of the oldest middle schools in District 11, is celebrating its 100th anniversary in grand style! Opened on September 29, 1924, North Middle has been a pillar of the downtown community for a century, shaping generations of students with rich history and educational excellence. To honor this incredible milestone, students and staff have been hard at work planning an unforgettable event on Tuesday, September 24th, from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM at the school.
This epic celebration will feature:
Food Trucks & Outdoor Fun: Big Papa’s Grill, Stan’s Funnel Cakes, and Chick-Fil-A will be on-site, serving up delicious food. Guests can enjoy live music from the North Orchestra and Band, a DJ, lawn games, and even a t-shirt tie-dye station!
A Walk Through History: Take a fascinating walk through the decades as students bring North’s 100 years of history to life! Classrooms will be transformed into living exhibits where you’ll experience key moments from the school’s history—from 1924 to today. There will be reenactments of each decade, yearbooks and archives on display, and music from every era playing in the rooms.
Meet Alumni & Explore the Archives: Step inside the library to view exclusive interview videos with alumni, including a special feature from a North graduate from the class of 1944. Attendees will also get a rare look inside the school’s basement, showcasing original rock walls and the historic furnace.
Special Guests & Time Capsule Opening: Esteemed guests Mayor Yemi Mobolade, Superintendent Michael Gaal, and other local leaders will help us mark this momentous occasion. Don’t miss the highlight of the night—the unveiling of North’s time capsule, a treasure trove of history, with reflections from students who researched North’s past through archives and alumni interviews. The true stars of this event are the North students who worked tirelessly on archival research, producing the documentary, interviewing alumni, and having true agency over the entire project.
North Middle School’s legacy is woven into the fabric of Colorado Springs. Over the past century, the school has been a beacon of educational excellence, and this celebration will highlight not only its storied past but also its promising future. With over 90 years of alumni, including two special guests in their 90s who are (hopefully!) reuniting at the event, this is a night for the history books!
