College Place Public Schools Awarded Behavioral Health Grant For Onsite Mental Health Support Program - 10/29/24

College Place, WA – October 29, 2024 – College Place Public Schools (CPPS) is proud to announce the launch of its new onsite mental health support program, "Wellness Without Limits," made possible through the Walla Walla County Department of Community Health's (DCH) 2025-2027 Behavioral Health Community Grant. Awarded $270,000 over the next three years, this initiative is set to address critical behavioral health needs within the school’s student community, underscoring the district's commitment to wellness and the foundational values.

In response to the growing need for mental health support among students, CPPS's program will focus on providing accessible, low-barrier mental health resources directly at school sites. This approach aligns with Walla Walla County’s recommendations to create voluntary, accessible services for individuals experiencing distress, improve service coordination, and expand peer support.  Previously, CPPS had limited services to offer and many of them relied on insurance that created an obstacle for students.

Jim Fry, Superintendent of College Place Public Schools, expressed his appreciation, stating, “This grant helps us go above and beyond to support the wellness of our students. At CPPS, we are committed to fostering environments where every student can grow and succeed—both academically and emotionally. The CP Way is about ensuring that each student feels connected, supported, and empowered, and this program brings those values into action.”

The "Wellness Without Limits" program will focus on offering students in-school access to behavioral health services through a licensed provider, promoting a culture of wellness that encourages students to seek support whenever needed. By reducing barriers to access, the program ensures students can receive timely assistance, a core tenet of CPPS's commitment to cultivating excellence and wellness throughout the district.

The funding for this program comes as part of a countywide initiative by the Walla Walla County Department of Community Health to enhance behavioral health resources across demographics and communities. The DCH's selection of CPPS reflects confidence in the district's ability to implement effective, community-oriented support systems that cater to both the academic and personal well-being of its students.

This initiative builds upon the guiding principles in College Place Public Schools of fostering a supportive culture within the school that encourages students to take ownership of their mental wellness, collaborate with peers and mentors, and grow in a safe, nurturing environment.

College Place Public Schools is dedicated to advancing a holistic approach to student health, ensuring that all students have the resources they need to thrive. With the launch of "Wellness Without Limits," CPPS takes a transformative step forward in supporting student mental health and setting a foundation for lifelong well-being.
