Home Lost To Fire In Kalama WA (Photo)

On Sunday, July 19th at 4:46 PM, Cowlitz County Fire District 5 was dispatched to Lady Blue Lane in Kalama, WA for reports of a loud explosion and flames shooting 80ft in the air. The reporting party believed it was a neighbor's house or barn that was on fire.
Cowlitz County Fire District 5 responded with two fire engines, a water tender, and a command vehicle. While they were responding, crews could see a large column of black smoke from several miles away. Deputy Chief Fleming requested additional resources from neighboring districts and initiated a 2nd alarm.
Upon arrival, crews found a fully involved mobile home with fire threatening a nearby metal shop. Thanks to the initial crews who arrived, the fire was quickly knocked down, and damage to the metal shop was minimal.
Nobody was home at the time of the fire. A family dog was found deceased in the rubble. No firefighter injuries were reported.
The column of black smoke could be seen from Kelso to Woodland. The residence was in a remote area on a narrow and winding roadway with no fire hydrants. Three water tenders were utilized to supply water to suppress the fire. The collapse of the metal roof made extinguishment difficult as it covered burning portions of the home.
All crews cleared the scene at 9:25 PM
Cowlitz Fire District 5 had 3 career staff and 4 volunteer firefighters on site.
Other agencies that assisted on scene: Cowlitz Fire District 1 from Woodland, Cowlitz 2 Fire and Rescue from Kelso, and Washington State DNR.
