Every year 5%--20% of Americans get the flue. About 36,000 people will die from flu-related causes.

Now, the severity of the recent flu strain has required increased protection from Emergency Service Workers--like Paramedics and EMTs'.

As part of a new directive from the Public Health Department, Clark County Fire District 6 emergency service workers will be required to wear drop isolation mask for all calls--regardless of the type of emergency.

"We've had larger number of flu cases in the past," says EMS Captain, Eric Simukka. "It's just that the severity of this particular strain of flu is very concerning--and is behind the requirement for increased protection."

The best way to prevent seasonal flu is by getting a seasonal flu vaccination. The CDC recommends immunization of all health care workers, and drop isolation masking to prevent respiratory aerosol spread of the disease.
