The Fire District 3 Board of Fire Commissioners has selected a new Assistant Fire Chief to replace Assistant Fire Chief Scott Sorenson who took the position of Fire Chief in November. Assistant Chief Barbara Widlund was selected from a number of national applicants for the position.
Chief Widlund began her fire service career in 2000 as a volunteer with Fire District 3 and was hired full-time in 2001.
Chief Widlund holds an Associate of Science Degree in Fire Protection Technology (Portland Community College). She is currently enrolled in the Managing Fire Officer Program at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Maryland. Chief Widlund is a 1985 graduate of La Center High School.
Chief Widlund has served as a career Firefighter/EMT-IV Technician, Captain, Apparatus Operator, Scene Officer, Station Officer, Shift Training Captain, Prefire Program Manager, SCBA Program Manager, and Acting Battalion Chief.
Chief Widlund is married and resides in Hockinson.
