Report Shows CCC Adds $328 Million To County’s Economy (Photo) - 09/08/26

OREGON CITY – Clackamas Community College contributed $328 million in added income to the Clackamas County economy in fiscal year 2023-24 and supported 3,762 jobs, according to a new economic impact report examining the college’s role in the regional and state economies.

 

The impact was equal to approximately 1.2% of the county’s gross regional product. Put another way, one out of every 70 jobs in Clackamas County was supported by the college and its students.

 

The report, prepared by labor market analytics firm Lightcast using fiscal year 2023-24 data, measures the impact of college operations, student spending and the increased earnings of CCC alumni and the businesses that employ them.

 

“Clackamas Community College changes lives, but its impact extends well beyond our classrooms,” CCC President Tim Cook said. “When our students gain skills, earn degrees and certificates, and work family-wage jobs, not only do local employers gain the skilled workforce they need, but our entire community benefits. This report shows that investing in CCC is an investment in the future of Clackamas County.”

 

CCC’s total annual impact includes:

  • $225.4 million from the increased earnings of CCC alumni and the businesses they work for, supporting 2,513 jobs.
  • $88.1 million from college payroll and other operating expenses, supporting 1,028 jobs.
  • $14.5 million from the spending of students who relocated to or remained in Clackamas County to attend CCC, supporting 220 jobs.

The report also found a strong return on investment for students, taxpayers and the broader community. For every dollar students invest in their CCC education, they gain $4.50 in higher lifetime earnings. Taxpayers receive $1.20 in added tax revenue and public-sector savings, and society gains $6 in added income and social savings.

 

At the statewide level, Oregon’s 17 community colleges added $11 billion to the state economy in fiscal year 2023-24, equal to 3.7% of Oregon’s gross state product. Together, they supported 120,140 jobs — one out of every 23 jobs in the state. The colleges served 125,399 credit students and 77,494 noncredit students during the year.
