OREGON CITY – Betty Reynolds, of West Linn, was appointed to the Clackamas Community College (CCC) Board of Education Jan. 9. She is filling the position vacated by the retirement of Ron Adams in December, representing the West Linn/Wilsonville area.

Reynolds also serves on the West Linn-Wilsonville School Board and will complete the remainder of her term, which expires June 30.  She has been active with the college for several years, serving twice as chair of the budget committee and as a member of the bond project citizen oversight committee.

“I’m honored to be appointed to the board and am deeply committed to the college’s goals of creating lifetime opportunities for success through high-quality, accessible education and training opportunities that fulfill workforce needs,” Reynolds said. “Education is a continuum. I look forward to strengthening important ties like advanced college credit and career technical education opportunities between K-12 and college, and partnerships with our community.”

Reynolds also serves on the Oregon School Boards Association Board of Directors and is a past president. She represents the association on the Oregon Community Colleges Association Board.

“Betty has been involved in public education advocacy for many years and volunteers as a legislative advocate for the college,” CCC President Tim Cook said. “We are privileged to have someone as experienced and dedicated as her to serve our college, our students and our community.”

Reynolds said she sees 2019 Oregon Legislature session as promising for “public education opportunities so that all students succeed and Oregon thrives.”

A retired state executive, Reynolds has held leadership positions in national, state and local civic and charitable organizations. She serves on the National School Boards Association (NSBA) Policies and Resolutions Committee and was treasurer and board member of the National School Boards Action Center (NSBA’s advocacy arm) from 2015 to 2017. Reynolds earned her doctorate degree in public administration and policy from Portland State University.

CCC is governed by an elected board of directors representing zones within the college district. Reynolds represents Zone 5. She will be sworn in at the Feb. 13 Board of Education meeting. Her appointment will continue through June 30. In May, Reynolds may run for election to the position.
