EUGENE, Ore. – Bushnell University Esports has recently partnered with the Eugene Family YMCA to offer an exciting Esports Program, focusing on teaching youth the fundamentals of becoming successful esports athletes.
Held every Friday from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM at the Eugene Family YMCA, the program covers key aspects of competitive gaming, including game strategy, teamwork, and mental preparation, with a focus on popular game titles such as Rocket League, Smash Brothers, Valorant, Overwatch, various sports titles and more.
The program is designed to help students learn, grow, and practice the essential skills needed for competitive esports, while fostering personal development and leadership. Participants will gain valuable insights into what it takes to succeed in the rapidly growing world of esports.
"We are thrilled to collaborate with Bushnell University on this exciting esports initiative," said Holly Kriz Anderson, VP of Operational Excellence. "By integrating competitive gaming with education, we are creating a unique platform for youth to develop critical skills like teamwork, strategy, and leadership. This program not only highlights the future of esports but also offers new pathways for growth and community engagement. At the YMCA, we pride ourselves on providing opportunities for youth to be involved in a wide variety of activities, ensuring every young person can find their passion and thrive."
As part of this initiative, Bushnell University Esports athletes are actively involved as mentors, showcasing their own hard work and dedication while helping younger players build the foundations for their own success. The mentorship component of the program allows Bushnell athletes to give back to the community, sharing their experiences and supporting the next generation of esports talent.
"This program is more than just about gaming," said Jeremy Stout, Bushnell Director of Esports. "It is about mentorship and developing life skills that translate both in and outside of the gaming world. Our athletes are thrilled to continue working with the YMCA to help guide young gamers as they develop their abilities and confidence."
The partnership between Bushnell University and the YMCA of Eugene provides an excellent opportunity for youth in the area to immerse themselves in the world of competitive gaming while learning from collegiate-level athletes.
