NOMINATE A LEGACY LEADER OF COLOR: Boys & Girls Clubs of the Portland Metropolitan Area Announces RENAMING OF WATTLES CLUB
Wattles Club in SE Portland to be renamed through transformative investment from PCC Structurals
(PORTLAND, OR) May 15, 2023 – Today, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Portland Metropolitan Area (“BGCP”) is launching a unique campaign to rename the Wattles Club located in the Lents Neighborhood through the new naming rights partnership with PCC Structurals. “We are taking a community wide approach by soliciting nominations of legacy leaders of color in our community who could be potential honorees,” said Terry Johnson, CEO-Boys & Girls Clubs of Portland Metro. BGCP is soliciting nominations from the community and today starts the campaign for nominations from the community, which will run thru May 26th. BGCP and PCC have composed a committee who will review nominations, narrow them down to 5 finalists, and then take those finalists to our youth in the Clubs who will select an honoree as the winner during the week of June 26th. The Wattles Club will then be renamed after the selected honoree (powered by PCC Structurals).
“We are extremely excited about this partnership and opportunity to rename the Wattles Club after a dynamic community leader in Portland. This is a uniquely significant moment for us because the Wattles Club is our flagship location where we established our very first stand-alone club in 1954 by converting the old Lents Elementary school into a Club after we were initially founded in 1946. So, we’ve been serving the Greater Portland Area for 77 years, but directly serving the Lents neighborhood for nearly 70 years at this particular location,” said Terry Johnson, CEO – Boys & Girls Clubs of Portland Metro.

The Wattles Club is located at 9330 SE Harold St. in the Lents neighborhood and is one of ten Clubs operated by Boys & Girls Clubs of Portland Metro serving Multnomah, Clackamas, and Washington counties. BGCP impacts approximately 6,000 youth and families each year through in-club afterschool programming and a variety of community outreach activities, including health clinics, back-2-school, and cultural events.
