The Bend Police Department on Friday arrested a man who fired at least three shots in the air after a dispute near 7-Eleven on NE Franklin Avenue on Tuesday evening.
At approximately 8:19 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3, Bend Police responded to a shooting complaint in the 200 block of NE Franklin Avenue.
Investigating officers determined two men in a Subaru Forester arrived at 7-Eleven at approximately 7:56 p.m. The passenger entered the store and made a purchase. At 8:17 p.m., the passenger got back in the vehicle and brandished a black firearm. The vehicle drove into the alley behind 7-Eleven, where the passenger exchanged words with a man. The passenger got out of the Subaru, pointed the firearm at the man and then fired it in the air multiple times. The Subaru then sped westbound through the alley away from the scene.
Over the course of several days and using video surveillance, officers identified the suspect as Nicholas James Williams, a 34-year-old Bend resident. On Friday afternoon, officers conducted a high-risk traffic stop on Williams' vehicle in the 500 block of SW Bond Street. Police arrested Williams on suspicion of unlawful use of a weapon and menacing. He was transported to the Deschutes County Jail.
Officers executed a search warrant at Williams' apartment in NW Bend and located both the gun and clothing used in the crime.
