UPDATE: Suspect In Custody In Hit-and-run In SE Bend (Photo) - 01/13/26

UPDATE: Thanks to assistance from the public, at approximately 5:55 p.m. Bend Police were able to identify the suspect vehicle and the driver in this incident. The driver, 61-year-old Bend resident Tracy Michael Wood, was taken into custody at his home. The vehicle was located nearby. Wood was transported to the Deschutes County Jail on suspicion of failure to perform duties of a driver.

Incident: Bend Police seek suspect in hit-and-run who hit child on a bicycle 

Date / Time of Incident: Jan. 13, 2026 / 7:26 a.m.  

Location: Brosterhous Road and Murphy Road roundabout, Bend  

 

The Bend Police Department is seeking the community’s assistance in identifying the driver who left the scene of a crash involving a child on a bicycle on Tuesday morning. 

 

At approximately 7:26 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 13, Bend Police responded to a report of a vehicle-versus-bicycle crash in the roundabout of of Brosterhous and Murphy roads. Witnesses reported that a child was riding a bicycle in the roundabout crosswalk when a vehicle, likely a light blue or gray older-style Honda sedan, hit the back tire of the bicycle. The child fell off the bicycle and suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene by Bend Fire medics.  

 

The driver of the vehicle briefly stopped, then sped away from the scene of the crash. Leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash is a crime.
