Date / Time of Incident: 12/17/22, 11:32 p.m.
Location: Intersection of NW Wall Street and NW Lafayette Ave, Bend
Arrested / Charges: Bridgette Lynn Shoemaker, 25-year-old Terrebonne resident – DUII, Driving While Suspended, Failure to Install an IID, Following Too Closely
Christian Thomas Diebold, 26-year-old Bend resident – DUII
At approximately 11 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 17, Bend Police stopped 26-year-old Christian Diebold and took him into custody on suspicion of DUII. Diebold parked his gray minivan in the intersection of NW Wall Street and Lafayette Avenue. Diebold was transported to the Deschutes County Jail.
Because Diebold’s minivan was in the middle of the road, it was deemed a hazard and officers called for an impound tow. While waiting for the towing company to arrive, a Bend Police officer parked behind the minivan with lights illuminated to alert drivers to the hazard. The police vehicle was parked on NW Lafayette Avenue, just east of the intersection of Wall and Lafayette, and the officer was in the vehicle.
At approximately 11:32 p.m., 25-year-old Bridgette Lynn Shoemaker was driving west on NW Lafayette Avenue when she rear-ended the police vehicle. The police vehicle hit Diebold’s minivan. The officer was not injured, and the police vehicle sustained slight damage but remained drivable.
Shoemaker was taken into custody on suspicion of DUII and transported first to St. Charles Bend and then to the Deschutes County Jail on the above charges. Shoemaker’s vehicle was impounded and towed.
