Bend Police Arrest Male Who Targeted Homeless Females

On July 1st 2021, officers with the Bend Police Department were given information regarding a male who was targeting homeless females and offering them money for sex.
A Bend Police Officer contacted an advocate for a homeless female victim who advised the victim female was propositioned for sex in exchange for money by a male who said he could “help her out.” The officer obtained the suspect’s phone number and, posing as a homeless female, he began communicating with the suspect via text messaging. The officer obtained enough evidence to arrest the suspect for Prostitution and arranged a meeting for the following day.
On July 2nd 2021 around 8:00 AM, officers with the Bend Police Department contacted the suspect, Darrell Shank, at the meeting place and took him into custody. Due to COVID restrictions at the Deschutes County Jail, Shank was cited for Promoting Prostitution and Patronizing a Prostitute and released.
