Two Suspects Arrested in Two Separate DUII Crashes that Caused Extensive Damage to Property (Photo) - 05/17/20

Incident #1 / May 16th 2020 @ 7:49 PM

Suspect: 47 year old Allen Lee Heinly / Bend Oregon

On May 16th 2020 at 7:49 PM, Bend Police officers were dispatched to the area of Cooley Road and 18th Street on a reported roll-over motor vehicle crash. As officers were responding, several witnesses reported that the driver of the vehicle, later identified as Allen Lee Heinly, was running from the crash scene.

A Bend Police Officer who was responding to the crash located Heinly running on Wagontire Way which is near the crash location. The officer, who was alone at the time attempted to stop Heinly, however Heinly was uncooperative, resisted arrest, and attempted to run from the officer. Several other officers arrived and assisted in taking Heinly into custody. Heinly and involved officers were not injured.

At the location of the crash officers found Heinly’s vehicle, a black Lexus, on its top in the side median. Evidence at the crash scene indicated the Lexus crashed into the median causing it to flip over onto its top. (Photo 1 attached)

Heinly was transported to the Bend Police Department for processing and charged with the following crimes:


Interfering with a Police Officer

Resisting Arrest

Reckless Driving

Driving while Revoked / Misdemeanor

Criminal Mischief III

Hit and Run Accident


Incident #2 / May 17th 2020 @ 3:49 AM

Suspect: 23 year old Bhaylen Dale Hayes / Bend Oregon

On May 17th 2020 at 3:49 AM, Officers with the Bend Police Department were dispatched to the area of Pappy’s Pizza in Bend on a reported motor vehicle crash. Multiple callers reported that a vehicle hit a power pole, there was a loud explosion, and the power was out in the area. One caller reported that an individual, later identified as Bhaylen Dale Hayes, was frantically walking around the vehicle before running from the scene towards Eagle Landing Apartments located at 20240 Reed Lane.

Officers arrived at the crash scene and observed an orange Hyundai Veloster registered to Hayes crashed into a power pole. Witnesses on scene pointed out the apartment that Hayes ran to and entered. Officers contacted Hayes, who appeared to be intoxicated, and took him into custody without incident.

The power pole was completely severed and hanging by wires. (Photos 2 & 3 attached) The sidewalk was also cracked from the crash. Power was restored to all but five customers at 4:39 AM.

Hayes was transported to the Bend Police Department where he was processed. Hayes was charged with the following crimes:

Hit and Run – Property Damage
