On November 4th 2018, Officers with the Bend Police Department responded to 3534 NW McCready Drive on a report that the remains of a killed deer were found in the driveway of a residence. The Reporting Party did not see what killed the deer. Upon arrival, officers observed evidence that sometime during the previous night a deer was killed and drug off by another animal.

Officers spent several hours searching the area and were unable to locate the remains of the deer or the predator that killed the deer. Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) was contacted and advised of the incident and scene. Officers were unable to determine if the deer was killed by a cougar, coyotes, or other animal(s).

On November 5th 2018, ODFW responded to the scene and conducted another search of the area. During the search, a possible cougar track was located approximately 300 yards from the driveway where the deer was killed. A partial bone fragment was also located near the scene. Whether or not the deer was killed by a cougar could not be confirmed at this time.

ODFW suggested anyone with questions or concerns regarding cougars, please visit their website and search “Living with Wildlife – Cougars.”
