NARRATIVE:

On June 2nd, 2018 at 0815 hours, Bend Police Officers and Bend Medics were dispatched to 1967 NE Red Rock Ln in NE Bend for a reported stabbing.  As officers responded to the residence, information came in to Deschutes County 911 regarding the stabbing suspect, Alex Burton, who was still on scene and standing in the front yard of the residence.  Additionally other individuals were actively providing care to the victim, Aries Gaber.  Gaber had sustained at least one significant stab wound to his leg.

As officers arrived on scene we learned Burton had fled inside the residence and officers began efforts to rescue Gaber from the front yarr, provide aid and prepare to make contact with Burton.  Burton then exited the residence and was detained by officers.  Bend Medics provided medical care and transported Gaber to SCMC – Bend with non-life threatening injuries.

As officers began conducting the criminal investigation, it was learned Burton and Gaber are acquaintances and both arrived at Burton’s residence in his vehicle.  At one point an altercation took place in / around Burton’s vehicle and Gaber was stabbed at least one time in the leg.  Burton also attempted to stab Gaber in the upper torso as before he drug Gaber across the roadway and tried to force him inside his residence.

Brad Masters, an acquaintance to both subjects, was also present when this stabbing occurred and fled the location on foot.  Masters was later located and interviewed regarding this incident.

Gaber was treated and later released from SCMC and Burton was also evaluated at SCMC before being transported to the Deschutes County Adult Jail where he was lodged.

During the course of this investigation, officers also determined Burton, Gaber and Masters were all involved / present during an armed robbery which occurred on the south end of Bend at around 2 AM.  Between the statements provided by Burton, Gaber and Masters and physical evidence officers recovered it is believed this was drug-related and weapons were used during the robbery.  This investigation is ongoing and additional arrests / charges are expected.

The Bend Police Department is requesting public assistance and seeking victims / witnesses to this armed robbery which likely occurred in the area of Wal-Mart / New Hope Church around 2 AM on June, 2nd.

We would also like to thank the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office for assisting us by responding to numerous calls for service within the city limits while our officers were conducting this investigation.
