Narrative:

On April 19 at 8:40am, the Bend Police Department and Bend Fire and Rescue responded to the report of an injury motor vehicle crash on the Bend Parkway near NW Hawthorne. Deschutes County 911 Dispatch advised that there was a person entrapped in one of the involved vehicles.

When first responders arrived on scene, they learned a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado had collided with a 2004 Subaru Impreza. A 10 year old child was removed from the Subaru by the driver of the Subaru and the child was contacted by first responders immediately. Bend Police Officers provided immediate lifesaving assistance to the child until Bend Fire and Rescue arrived a short time later. The child was transported to St. Charles Bend with life threatening injuries. The child has since been transported by air ambulance to a trauma center in the Portland Oregon area.

The driver of the Subaru did not suffer noticeable injuries. The driver of the Silverado pickup was trapped inside his vehicle until Bend Fire and Rescue was able to remove him. The driver was transported to St. Charles Bend with non-life threatening injuries.

The initial investigation has found the Silverado pickup was traveling northbound on the Bend Parkway. The pickup left the northbound lane, crossed the center median and collided with the Subaru Impreza, which was driving south on the Bend Parkway.

The Oregon State Police and Oregon Department of Transportation assisted with this investigation. The roadway was blocked for just over an hour.

This investigation is ongoing to find the cause of the crash. The Bend Police Department would like to ask if anyone was a witness to this crash to please contact us at 541-693-6911.
