Arrest of Burglary Suspects in NW Bend - 03/21/18

Suspects:

Nicole Wildner 34 year old female Bend, Oregon Resident

Nick Lopez 35 year old male Bend, Oregon Resident

Narrative:
On 3/19/18 at around 9:45 PM, Bend PD officers were dispatched to 3094 NW Canyon Springs Pl for a report of a burglary in progress. The caller observed two subjects attempting to gain entry into the residence via surveillance cameras.

Officers arrived and observed at least one subject with a flashlight inside a neighboring residence. The residences in this neighborhood are in various stages of construction. Officers surrounded the residence and announced their presence demanding the subjects exit the residence. Officers were able to observe two subjects running inside the residence once they began announcing themselves.

After multiple announcements at the door of the residence, including announcements specific to the use of utilizing a police K9 to search the building, the subjects failed to comply with officers commands forcing a K9 team to be deployed.

Officer Uballez and his K9 partner "Kim" who were on scene were utilized to search the residence for the suspect(s). K9 Kim located a female, later identified as Nicole Wildner, hiding inside and assisted in capturing her. K9 Kim was able to locate the second subject, Nick Lopez, who was hiding in the crawl space of the residence. Lopez surrendered to officers prior to K9 Kim being utilized to take him into custody.

Both subjects were later taken to the Deschutes County Adult Jail where they were lodged on the listed charges:

Nicole Wildner -- Burglary I, Probation Violation

Nick Lopez -- Burglary I

Bend Police utilizes our K9 resources in situations such as this to minimize the risk to our human officers as well as the suspect(s) we come into contact with. K9 Kim provided officers with the safety of not needing to unnecessarily enter a residence occupied by two burglary suspects.
