Date: Sunday, January 07, 2018

Date & Time of Incident: January 7th

Type of Incident: Cougar Sighting

Location of Incident: 800 block of NE Hawthorne

Narrative:

On January 7th, the Bend Police Department learned a neighbor in the area of the 800 block of NE Hawthorne interrupted a cougar attacking a deer. This happened in the morning before 9:00 am and was the only report received. The neighbor was able to scare the cougar away into the Pilot Butte Cemetery. The deer survived the attack.

With school being back in session tomorrow, we anticipate more people out walking in this area. Please be mindful of this report and call non-emergency (541-693-6911) if you see a cougar in your neighborhood. We work closely with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, who specialize in handling this type of wildlife/human interaction.
