News Release

Structure Fire At 739 NE Quimby Avenue On 7/2/23 - 07/03/23

At 7:08 pm on Sunday, July 2, 2023, Bend Fire & Rescue was dispatched to a reported structure fire on Quimby Avenue between 7th & 8th Streets.  The first arriving engine, Engine 326 from the newest station at Pilot Butte, was on scene within 4 minutes of dispatch.  Fire crews found a house, shed, large ponderosa pine, and RV on fire.  Additional resources were added and the fire was quickly knocked down.  The fire substantially damaged a home at 739 NE Quimby, destroyed a shed and RV at 707 NE Quimby, and a deck at 1636 NE 7th St.  Losses are estimated at $160,500 to structures, vehicles, and contents across the three properties.  Red Cross assistance was declined by the occupant of 739 NE Quimby, and was not needed for the other properties.

Upon investigation, the cause of the fire could not be determined, but did originate outside in an area between the three residences, adjacent to the shed located at 707 NE Quimby.

Bend Fire & Rescue would like to remind the community to be prepared for the risk of fire in these hot and dry conditions.  Keep vegetation trimmed back, especially within 30 feet of the home, clear roofs and gutters of pine needles, use caution this holiday when barbecuing or enjoying other recreational activities, and remember that ALL fireworks are banned by city ordinance within the city limits of Bend.  Please have a happy and safe 4th of July, and for more safety tips, visit our website at https://www.bendoregon.gov/government/departments/fire-rescue/education-safety-tips
