Beaverton Police Arrest Suspect, Recover Stolen Mail And Evidence Of Widespread Identity Theft (Photo) - 08/31/26

A Beaverton Police Department investigation that began with the arrest of a wanted man led officers to recover hundreds of pieces of suspected stolen mail and identity-theft evidence, stolen financial documents, credit cards, passports, counterfeit postal keys, drugs, and other suspected stolen property.

On August 14, 2026, at approximately 7:00 p.m., a Beaverton Police patrol officer was patrolling the Redwood Creek Apartments on SW Windmill Drive when he recognized Joseph Daniel Gregori exiting a vehicle. The officer knew Gregori had an outstanding felony warrant related to burglary, aggravated theft, forgery and conspiracy charges stemming from investigations in Clackamas County.

Gregori was taken into custody without incident.

During the arrest, officers developed evidence connecting Gregori to the fraudulent use of a victim’s credit card. The victim later confirmed several unauthorized transactions had recently been made using the card, including purchases at GameStop and other businesses.

Officers subsequently obtained a search warrant for the vehicle Gregori had been occupying.

During the search, officers recovered a significant amount of property believed to be connected to mail theft, identity theft, forgery and other crimes, including:

• Hundreds of pieces of suspected stolen mail and identity-theft related documents
• At least 34 credit cards that appeared to have been removed from mail, along with additional unopened credit cards
• Numerous stolen and altered checks, including checks connected to individuals and businesses
• Three U.S. passports not belonging to Gregori
• Driver licenses, Social Security cards and other personal identifying information belonging to multiple victims
• Counterfeit U.S. Postal Service master keys
• Thousands of collectible trading cards, including Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering and sports cards
• Approximately 1.8 grams of suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia
• Burglary tools

Investigators have identified numerous potential victims in Oregon and Washington and are continuing to determine the full scope of the suspected criminal activity. Evidence recovered during the investigation included financial documents and personally identifying information connected to dozens of individuals and businesses.

Gregori was lodged at the Washington County Jail on charges including Aggravated Identity Theft, Mail Theft, Identity Theft, Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card, Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine, and Possession of Burglary Tools.

On August 21, 2026, Gregori was indicted by a Washington County grand jury on charges of Aggravated Identity Theft, Mail Theft, Fraudulent use of Credit Card, Identity Theft, Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine. Gregori is in custody at the time of this release.

Because investigators recovered counterfeit U.S. Postal Service master keys and a significant amount of suspected stolen mail, information from the investigation is also being forwarded to the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.

This remains an active investigation.
