WCSO DEPUTY INVOLVED IN VEHICLE VS. PEDESTRIAN CRASH

(Released 04/15/2021)

Beaverton, Oregon – At 1:53 AM on April 15, 2021, Beaverton Police Officers were dispatched to the intersection of SW Murray Blvd. and SW Bowerman Drive, adjacent to Nike World Headquarters, on the report of a crash involving a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle.

Officers learned an on-duty Washington County Deputy traveling southbound on SW Murray Blvd. in their patrol vehicle struck a pedestrian near the intersection of SW Bowerman Dr.

Despite life-saving efforts by the involved deputy, responding officers and paramedics, the adult, male pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. Further details regarding the identity of the pedestrian will be released later.

Members of the Crash Analysis and Reconstruction Team (C.A.R.T.) are investigating the crash. C.A.R.T. is a multi-agency team of specially trained law enforcement officers from local police departments and the Washington County District Attorneys Office. The lead C.A.R.T. investigator for this case is a detective employed by the Beaverton Police Department.

Initial investigative findings indicate that speed was not a factor in the crash and the involved deputy was proceeding through the intersection of SW Murray Blvd. and SW Bowerman Dr. with the green light.

The involved deputy has been placed on administrative leave pending the results of both the crash and an internal investigation. This is standard procedure anytime a deputy or officer is involved in a traffic crash resulting in serious physical injury or death.
