Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest Washington Opens First-Ever Dedicated Outreach Space in Evergreen Public Schools

Ribbon-cutting ceremony set for August 18 at Evergreen High School

 

VANCOUVER, WA — Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest Washington (BGCSW) is opening the doors to its first-ever dedicated Outreach program space in Evergreen Public Schools (EPS), giving Evergreen-area teens a place they can call their own.

 

Since 2014, BGCSW's Outreach team has provided specialized services to teens and young adults referred from across Clark County, offering intentional support, engaging activities, and case management designed to interrupt cycles of violence and expand access to safe, healthy pathways forward. With the support of EPS, that work can now happen closer to home — reducing transportation barriers and giving Outreach teens in the Evergreen community a consistent, welcoming space of their own.

 

The new space, a portable classroom on the Evergreen High School campus, is the result of a longstanding and growing partnership with EPS. The district's Safety & Security Department led the effort, securing funding through the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) to furnish, clean, and supply the space.

 

"I've seen firsthand how much of a difference the Outreach program makes for the students who get connected to it," said Shane Gardner, Director of Safety & Security at Evergreen Public Schools. "Watching that success made it an easy decision to invest in making this program more accessible to our students.” Gardner and his team spearheaded the effort on behalf of the district, inspired by the impact of BGCSW's Outreach program and a desire to make those services more accessible to Evergreen students.

 

"Our Outreach program has grown so much, and this space is a huge step forward for the work we do," said Izzy Queisser, Outreach Program Director at Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest Washington. "Having a consistent place within Evergreen Public Schools means we can show up for these teens more reliably, build deeper trust, and reach even more youth who need us most. This space is going to be vital to where we go next."

 

This summer, the space is being used to run Outreach programming and is not yet open for drop-in visits. Looking ahead to the school year, BGCSW hopes to open the space one day a week for drop-in access to teens from both Evergreen High School and Cascade Middle School. Hours and additional details will be posted to mybgc.org as they're finalized.
