Critical Injury Traffic Crash on Highway 99 near Monroe (Photo) Driver incorrectly identified - 07/11/18

 

Deputies from the Benton County Sheriff’s Office are continuing to investigate a two-vehicle critical injury motor vehicle crash that occurred about one mile south of Monroe. The crash resulted in critical injuries to a Monroe man and serious injuries to an adult female.

At about 4:48 pm, on Tuesday, July 10, 2018, an adult female was driving southbound on Highway 99W, less than a mile south of West Ingram Island Road, in a 2008 Toyota Prius. According to witnesses, she attempted to pass a vehicle and collided head-on with a northbound 2001 Oldsmobile Minivan, driven by Eugene Francis Bilson,a 78 year old male from from Monroe, Oregon. He was incorrectly identified as Jack Lee Carnahan in the earlier press release by Benton County Sheriff's Office. BCSO apologizes for the error

The Prius came to rest facing north in the southbound lane. The minivan came to rest partly in the ditch facing west in the northbound lane.

Medics from the Monroe Fire Department extricated both drivers. The female was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital (GSH) in Corvallis by an ambulance from the Corvallis Fire Department with serious injuries. Eugene Bilson was transported to GSH by REACH Air Ambulance with critical injuries. The Benton County Multi-Agency Traffic Collision Investigation Team processed the crash scene.

The female driver has been identified as Lis Adriana Sorrell, a 55 year old female from Eugene, Oregon. She was transported to Legacy Emanuel Hospital with critical injuries.

Deputies are continuing to investigate the crash and the public is asked to contact Sergeant David Peterson at 541-766-6820 if they have any information. The highway was closed for about three and a half hours.
