Philomath Hit and Run - 01/13/18

CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Benton County Sheriff's Office is investigating Ricky Ray Ferguson, 53, of Toledo, Oregon, for the involvement in a hit and run crash on Highway 20 in Philomath this morning.

With help from multiple members of the community, the suspect's pickup was spotted and ultimately located at the Blodgett Store, just west of Philomath.

Two community volunteers were collecting debris along the highway, when they were struck by a white Ford 250 pickup truck, which fled the scene.

One of the volunteers was a Corvallis man, 70 years of age, and was pronounced dead at the scene. The other volunteer is a Corvallis man, 85 years of age, remains in the Intensive Care Unit at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center. More information on the two men will be available once the families have been notified.

We want to thank the involvement of our citizens for calling in the vehicle location. Highway 20 has been reopened.

The investigation of the fatal hit and run crash continues with assistance from Philomath Police Department, Corvallis Police Department, Albany Police Department, Oregon State Police, and Oregon Department of Transportation.
